Happy Monday Edmonton! 🍾📺🤡🎪🍕

We have two big stories this week:

1. Zeller''s comeback into the Canadian market.. and its happening right here in Edmonton, and at a very familiar location.

2. School opening and the threat of a teachers strike!

Lets get to it!

Zellers is making a comeback in the retail world, with plans to open a new location in Edmonton.

The company has recently trademarked its logo and is set to open its doors in a location previously occupied by Hudson's Bay. The resurgence of Zellers comes after the once-popular discount department store chain closed its doors in 2013.

Many Canadians have fond memories of shopping at Zellers for affordable household items, clothing, and more. The decision to bring back Zellers is exciting news for loyal customers who have missed the store's unique offerings and friendly atmosphere.

The new location in Edmonton is sure to attract shoppers looking for quality products at affordable prices. Zellers' return to the retail scene is a testament to the brand's enduring popularity and the nostalgia it evokes in Canadians.

Many people have expressed excitement at the prospect of shopping at Zellers once again and supporting a beloved Canadian institution. The company's decision to trademark its logo indicates a commitment to preserving the Zellers brand and maintaining its reputation for quality and value.

By securing its trademark, Zellers ensures that its unique identity and heritage are protected as it embarks on this new chapter. The new Zellers location in Edmonton is set to offer a range of products, from everyday household items to clothing and accessories.

Shoppers can expect to find a diverse selection of merchandise at competitive prices, making Zellers a go-to destination for budget-conscious consumers. The resurgence of Zellers also represents a positive development for the retail industry, as it demonstrates that there is still a demand for traditional department stores that offer a wide range of products under one roof.

With its focus on affordability and quality, Zellers is well-positioned to attract customers looking for value in their shopping experience. Overall, the return of Zellers to the retail landscape is a welcome development for Canadians who have missed the brand's iconic presence in their communities.

The new location in Edmonton promises to bring back the nostalgia and joy of shopping at Zellers, while offering a modern shopping experience that meets the needs of today's consumers.

With its trademarked logo and commitment to quality and value, Zellers is poised for a successful comeback that will delight both new and returning customers.

Edmonton Schools Brace for September Start Amid Looming Threat of Province-Wide Teachers' Strike

As summer winds down, families across Edmonton are preparing for the new school year, but an air of uncertainty hangs over the traditional back-to-school rush. While official start dates for the 2025-2026 academic year have been set, the looming possibility of a province-wide teachers' strike threatens to disrupt the start of classes, leaving parents and students in limbo.

Confirmed Return to Class

Both Edmonton Public Schools and the Edmonton Catholic School Division have confirmed that the first day of school for the majority of their students will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Officials have noted that some junior high and high schools may implement a staggered start, allowing for orientation days where students can receive their timetables and textbooks before regular instruction begins.

For families enrolled in year-round programs with the Edmonton Catholic School Division, the return to the classroom will come much sooner, with classes scheduled to resume on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Uncertainty Cast by Potential Strike Action

Despite the scheduled start, the most significant story is the potential for widespread job action by educators. Teachers and administrators in all public, Catholic, and francophone school boards across Alberta are currently in a legal strike position.

This has created considerable anxiety for parents, who face the challenge of arranging last-minute childcare should a strike be called before or during the first week of school. The situation has drawn the attention of key figures, including the new superintendent of Edmonton Public Schools, who is preparing for the potential disruption, and Premier Danielle Smith, who has commented on the ongoing negotiations.

The uncertainty comes as Edmonton Public Schools anticipates a significant influx of students, with enrollment expected to reach around 125,000 for the fall semester, a figure bolstered by Alberta's steady population growth. For now, families can only prepare for the scheduled start date while anxiously awaiting news from the negotiation tables.
